The Energy List 2016 applies as from 1 January. Listed here are all the sustainable and energy-saving investments that will qualify this year for a tax advantage under the Energy Investment Allowance scheme (EIA). The main change in this scheme for 2016 is the increase in the tax relief percentage under the EIA scheme from 41.5% to 58%.

Energy Investment Allowance offers a 14% net benefit and short payback period

The Energy Investment Allowance is a tax relief scheme that delivers financial benefits to companies that invest in energy conservation or in the use of sustainable energy. The increase in the energy investment allowance to 58% will result in a 14% net gain for these companies. In many cases, this will lead to a return on one’s investment within just a few years.

Benefits of Energy Investment Allowance

To qualify for the energy investment allowance, your energy-saving and/or sustainable investment must meet a number of conditions:

- Your investment must be at least EUR 2,500 per item of equipment
- The machinery and equipment must not have been used previously
- The machinery and equipment must be listed on the Energy List 2016

This tax relief allowance also applies in relation to:
- Industrial systems that save on energy or fossil fuels and achieve a general savings standard
- Costs of energy advice (under certain conditions)

The Energy List 2016 provides an overview of machinery and equipment that qualify under the Energy Investment Allowance scheme. For example, energy-efficient cooling and/or refrigeration installations using natural refrigerants and heat pumps.
